1. Please wait at least 24- 48 hours before washing your shirt. Especially for reds and yellows allow 48 hours for more vivid colors. It takes 24-48 hours for the dye to fully set into the shirt. Leave the shirt in the bag, lighter colors facing up, until you are ready to wash the shirt. Be sure to leave it in a sink or on a pan while waiting to wash. The dye will actually work better if you let it set longer, giving you better colors with sharper edges.
2. Before handling the shirt, WEAR GLOVES! The dye that we are using is non-toxic, but it will stain your hands and clothing so please be careful when washing.
3. While the shirt is still tied, it needs to be rinsed under cold, running water. The sink that is closest to the washing machine is usually best to use so less water has a chance to drip after rinsing. This should take you about three minutes. When you see very little dye running off the tied-up shirt, start to gradually remove the rubber bands while still rinsing. Get as much dye out as possible this way. This should take about another five minutes. Immediately after rinsing, wring out the excess water from the shirt, then wash the shirt by itselfwith cold water and detergent in the washing machine. Remember, good rinsing keeps the design from looking “muddy” and colors from running into each other.
4. After the washer has finished, put your shirt into the dryer by itself. The dye sets to a permanent color with the heat of the dryer. If you let the shirt sit in the washing machine for a long time or do not dry the shirt, the colors will run together into a blurry design.
5. After washing and drying, there will still be a little spot in the middle where the tie-dye was twisted up. Take your iron and iron the shirt flat to remove the spot of twisted fabric.
6. Your shirt is ready to wear! If you would like to upload a photo of your shirt we would love to publish it on our website! Please include your child’s name and age and submit a photo release form with your image. We look forward to seeing your creations!
Our Master Classes are designed for those who would like to learn about the entire tie-dye process. We begin each class with a little background into the pre-soak and preparation that is required for successful tie-dye. Next, we explain the folding technique and demonstrate the folding step by step as you follow along. After tying, each participant will be given tips for color selections and dye application techniques that will help them to achieve theIr specific desired result. We are with you every step of the way and are available to answer any questions you may have throughout the process. Your finished product is bagged and sent home with you to be washed out 24-48 hours later. This allows for the most vivid and vibrant colors.
We are a mobile studio, however, weekdays and select weekends we are open for you to come to us! You can schedule a time to “POP-In”
You will have the studio to yourself. Fully stocked with all the colors, and tying supplies you have the opportunity to dye a pre-tied shirt or test your tying skills and try a pattern all your own.
Pre-soaked in activator, we will have totes, shirts of all sizes and scrunchies available for purchase during your studio time.
Since you get the studio to yourself we take pride in being able to provide a sensory friendly environment and adapt the experience to accommodate any special needs you may have.
Also, you can request specific music or none at all!
Behind the scenes a special activator is made and all fabrics are pre-soaked so that the dyes will adhere and bond to our fabrics. Dyes are all mixed in exact ratios to provide a reliable color saturation to your creation.
To begin the actual dye process you first put on gloves and a smock to protect hands and clothing as best as possible.
You have the option to tie your own shirt or purchase a pre-tied shirt that will produce a perfect spiral pattern every time. We recommend pre-tied shirts at parties and large events.
You are now ready to go to your station and begin dying. Each station is stocked with Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Pink and Black dye. A dye-expert is available at all times to help you achieve the result you desire with tips and advice.
The tieing process can take a while however the dye process is usually quick. Some people do take longer, it depends on the person and the result that they are looking to achieve.
After each participant finishes they are able to go to the “selfie” spot and take photos while their creation is vacuum sealed and labeled with tie-dye washing instructions. Shirts should be washed out 24-48 hours later after the dye has had time to set.
We arrive at your location approximately 45 min to 1 hour prior to the time you would like your guests to begin dying shirts. You are able to select between pre-tied or fold our own items. Pre-tied shirts or bags are recommended for parties with attendees of younger ages and skill levels.
Your guests will get “suited up“ with gloves and a smock and then enter our mobile tie-dye studio where the magic begins! After a quick lesson on the science of tie-dye and some tie-dye tips handed down from some leading tie-dye masters your guests will be ready to create their own unique masterpieces! Once they are satisfied with their creation your guests will be directed to the ”selfie” spot while their creation is sealed and labeled with tie-dye washing instructions. They can then pick up their creation at the end of the party as. A party favor to be rinsed out at home 24-48 hours later.
To come to you we request you meet a minimum of $300.
Kids sizes 2T-XXL are $20 each.
Adult sizes S-3X are $30 each.
Tote bags are $20 each.
Hair scrunchies are $5.
The entire process with our pre-tied option takes between 15-30 minutes per group. Because of this, we are able to handle parties of much larger sizes and run ”waves” of guests through. Depending on age groups, we handle up to 14 guests making tie-dyes at one time. Since our process is relatively quick, we’re able to offer our services for private events at a reasonable rate that’s more affordable than some other entertainment options.
The Tie-your-own option does add anywhere from 5-25 minutes (depending on folding pattern) to the process so we only recommend this option for groups with a higher skill level or groups with older participants.
Yes, we can accommodate color requests for most of our tie-dye products. Contact us with your specific color preferences and we'll do our best to create a color palette that matches your needs! This is a great idea for team shirts!
